The main focus of her work is to determine the cognitive and communicative abilities of these birds, and compare their abilities with those of great apes, marine mammals, and young children. She is studying the mechanisms of their learning as well as the outcomes.
Dr. Pepperberg will be updating us on the current research at the lab.

Dr. Pilny’s talk will be about “MRSA & Pet Birds” ( presented at the Association of Avian Veterinarians Conference 2014) – Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA) continues to be an important infectious agent and pet birds are susceptible to infection. This talk discusses the bacteria, new information on transmission in pet birds, and reviews a difficult case seen in an African Grey Parrot and a novel therapy to treat it.
